Over the last few years, we’ve seen the major players in the streaming of television and film begin producing their own original content. The success of their original content and the subsequent increase in subscribers, has certainly made others in the industry take notice. Looking to increase their subscriber base and bridge the gap between gamers and viewers, the PlayStation Network has produced their first series.
powers, in part police procedural combined with the superhero genre, the Playstation Network series puts Los Angeles detectives Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward) in the middle of the action as they’re the ones responsible for policing those with abilities and keeping the rest of us safe.
Based on the Powers comic book by writer Brian Michael Bendis (who’s also an executive producer) the show began streaming its first three episodes on March 10th and making them available on the PlayStation Store. They opted to provide the 1st episode for free, while you’ll need a PS plus account to view the rest of the 10 episode season. After the first 3 episodes, each subsequent chapter of Powers‘ first season will air weekly.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Powers, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised after the first episode. The first episode provided enough to keep you interested and engaged, without giving the story away. You can always tell the mark of a good series if it leaves you wanting more and the first episode certainly achieved that… if the first season ends up being half as good as the original source material, we’re all in for a great series.
