Batman: Arkham Knight, First Impressions Of The Extended Red Hood Trailer

Earlier today GameStop revealed the extended gameplay trailer for their Batman: Arkham Knight pre-order bonus, the Red Hood Story Pack. If you happened to miss it, then check it out before continuing on with the article. There you’ll also find a brief history of the Red Hood character, just in case you’re unfamiliar with him.

I can’t express how thrilled I am, there isn’t any doubt that I made the right decision in pre-ordering Batman: Arkham Knight at GameStop.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, its exactly what I was expecting. The Red Hood expertly dispenses justice with a combination of acrobatics and deadly, pinpoint accuracy. I know there are a lot of fans in the community that wanted the portrayal of the character to be vicious and brutal, even though the game is rated M for Mature, I didn’t think we’d see that graphic of a killer. But I am curious if the lack of blood was because this is an edited trailer to keep from having to lock it behind an age gate or if this is the in game representation. Either way it won’t hurt the gameplay for me, I’m thoroughly looking forward to it.

The biggest question for me is regarding the story, they’ve done a great job at keeping that detail under wraps.
However I can’t help but wonder what we’ll be getting from this story pack, whether it’ll feel like an excuse to take out the criminal element of Gotham or will his vengeance be focused on a specific villain and their criminal organization?

What if the storyline takes place before the events of Arkham City? What if he’s focusing his brand of vigilante justice on the Joker?

Some might think this is an implausible thought, especially considering the events that unfolded in Arkham City. However we already know that the events that unfold in the Harley Quinn missions take place right before the events of Arkham Knight. And we certainly can’t forget that the season pass will feature a playable Batgirl story mission, which would have to take place before the events of Arkham Asylum as Barbara Gordon was already helping Batman as Oracle. If you think about it, it really isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

If the Joker were to return in Arkham Knight, I know, this might upset some of the fans. I’d love to be able to play a Red Hood storyline where you’ve returned to Gotham for the purpose of proving you can do what Batman couldn’t and put an end to the crime that has had a stranglehold over Gotham. Disrupting then dismantling the criminal empires in an effort to clean up Gotham, while daring the clown prince of crime to reclaim his city. Everything leading up to the classic moment when Batman and the Red Hood showdown and the truth behind the deadly vigilante is revealed.

Of course it’ll be great to get a completely new Arkham inspired storyline, but I can’t help thinking how great this retelling would be.

Ultimately we’ll need to wait until June 23rd to answer the question of the Red Hood storyline in Arkham Knight, either way I’m looking forward to it.
