The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was released on May 19th 2015 by CD Projekt RED. Let me start off and say when I picked up my retail version of this game, I was immediately impressed. For the $60.00 price tag you get a soundtrack, compendium, world map, stickers and a thank you note. Since the release there is a slew of free DLC that adds quests and witcher gear. It’s a really nice touch and it stands out among developers.
The Witcher 3 is an open-world action RPG; most of the game takes place across 4 contained but huge open-world locations. Quests are a big portion of this game. As you can tell the developer wants you to complete quests, opposed to grinding monsters over and over. Experience Points awarded for quests is tenfold opposed for what you can get for killing a monster, a nice touch to keep repetition down. Speaking of quests every single quest is acted out with awesome voice acting. There are no cheap open dialogue boxes to just add filler to the game. Combat in The Witcher 3 is never dull; every different type of enemy you face has a different strategy to defeat it. The bestiary is your savior it shows enemies weaknesses and helps you develop a strategy before every expected fight.
A game of this magnitude that provides over 200 hours of gameplay is going to have its issues and thankfully The Witcher 3 does not have any game breaking bugs. The small nuisances I do have are how Geralt moves when you walk with him it just feels delayed. His Horse Roach never comes to your side when you call him and I always have to look on the map to go find him. The inventory screen is just a mess hopefully they can come out with a patch to sort it better.
The version I played was on the Playstation 4 and it’s a stunning open world too look at. The night and day transitions are awe inspiring and the beauty of it all is tantalizing. The Witcher 3 is a feast for the senses. I consider it, the most immersive game available on Playstation 4 of 2015.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt has been released now for approximately 2 months, and if you have not picked this game up yet, you are missing a lot. This game is a contender for game of the year 2015 in my opinion.
