In 1986, critically acclaimed comic book writer, Frank Miller introduced the world to his vision of Batman in The Dark Knight Returns.
The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of Bruce Wayne, who comes out of retirement at 55 years old to don the cape and cowl once more. However in an effort to restore order to the streets of Gotham, the Dark Knight must also face opposition from the Gotham City Police Department and US government.
Miller’s take on Batman had been far darker than the vast majority of those that came before it, however it’s also proven to be one of the most influential and iconic stories within the characters rich history. Even today with the DC Comics Theatrical Universe taking shape, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is heavily inspired by this masterwork. Naturally, Miller followed up The Dark Knight Returns with the 2001 sequel The Dark Knight Strikes Again, which takes place 3 years later as Batman has been in hiding and prepares to return once more for a growing threat.
The Dark Knight III: The Master Race is a miniseries in eight parts, with each issue consisting of one 32-page main story and one 16-page minicomic focusing on a different character from within the world of Miller’s Dark Knight. These minicomics are a crucial part of the story, are also written by Miller and Azzarello. The Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 will be available on November 25, 2015.
The first issue will feature both standard and variant covers, plus a series of custom retailer covers only available at select stores.
