This is the way the world ends; not with a bang, but a RIPPER!
Independent video game developer and publisher, Psyonix, announced today that Rocket League, the popular sports-action phenomenon enjoyed by more than 8 million players worldwide, is breaking its own rules and going off-road with its new “Chaos Run” DLC.
Thematically inspired by films and literature set in grim, post-apocalyptic futures, Chaos Run brings those happy-go-lucky scenarios to Rocket League‘s universe with two brand new Battle-Cars (Ripper and Grog), 12 new Decals (six for each new vehicle), and several new Paint Types, Wheels, Rocket Trails, Toppers, and Antennas.

In today’s gaming marketplace it’s become more and more common for AAA developers to release a game with the intention of backing it up with downloadable content, so much in fact that we’re presented with the option to purchase a season pass even before the game has been released. And yet Avalanche Studios, creators of the critically acclaimed Just Cause franchise, decided to take a completely different approach with the release of Mad Max.
So far the only mention of DLC that I’ve come across are references to the pre-order bonuses, console exclusives, and the Rockstar Energy challenge car… that’s it. Whether or not Avalanche Studios is making a silent statement against the dependence on DLC in gaming or they’re simply wanting to make sure there’s a demand before investing the time, I honestly don’t know.
However this is what I know… The below content has been made available so far.
Even though Avalanche Studios hasn’t yet revealed their ultimate plans for Mad Max, I’d say there’s probably an expectation within the community that there will be more DLC coming our way. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of what I’d love to see make an appearance in Mad Max.

Dark Future was originally released as a board game in 1988, and later expanded into a series of books. The world it inhabits is a very different reality; cyberpunk more weird than wired. The cult Games Workshop board game of clashing highway warriors, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that was once America, is getting a reboot from Auroch Digital.
Auroch’s Dark Future: Blood Red States is supported by the Wellcome Trust, and will be a turn-based strategy game, played out in simultaneous real-time action. The gameplay is a furious mix of hammering chain-guns, tactical high-speed maneuvers and the ripping of metal as vehicles smash into one another. All the action is conducted against a dark background of the decline of humanity; too wild to be true and too close for comfort.

Initially I wasn’t sure what we were going to except from Mad Max, my fear was that it was going to be a direct translation of Mad Max: Fury Road, which debuts in May, however based on the overview trailer that doesn’t seem to be the case. Visually it looks like they’ve amped up the franchise to meet the look and feel of Fury Road, however you’re starting from the beginning… left for dead and fighting for your survival.
