Fans of card-based role-playing games are going to want to keep this one on your radar…
Introducing ZEMS, a new strategy and collectible card game hybrid now seeking votes on Steam Greenlight. Developed by Impulse Limited, Zems has players manipulate and master the weather to inflict massive damage on the opposition.
Set in Delnoa, a world inhabited by fantasy creatures and a number of factions, where an uneasy peace is held together by faith alone. Among the most powerful factions in Delnoa is the Irulian Empire, a human nation consisting of incredibly disciplined (and well-trained) soldiers known as the Irulian Legion. Some races (such as the dragon-like Phegans) are so powerful that they can each exist on their own without a faction. Others isolate themselves from conflict by making the sea their homes. Moonburnt Studio has just launched a Square Enix collective campaign for their truly beautiful non-linear point & click adventure game, that features silhouette graphics, “COLUMNAE: A Past Under Construction.”
The game is set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world, ruined by a gradual environmental catastrophe that left the air on the surface unbreathable about 140 years ago. To escape the catastrophe, the rich built a haven for themselves high in the skies and those who could not afford it had to hide within its pillars. The story is focused on a society descended from people who couldn’t afford to inhabit Deus – the “city in the clouds”, in the moment when the ecological disaster was imminent. Deus is a closed town surrounded by a mechanical steel shell, and built upon 127 gigantic (over 600m/2000ft high) metal pillars – Columnae. Beneath them, a huge underground machinery, called Machina, was built with the purpose of automatically extracting and processing resources and sending them via pipes through Columnae and into Deus. This way, Machina was constructed to provide all the necessary resources to the people living in Deus indefinitely, so they would never have to leave it again – and to this day, they never did.
As a player, you are one of those unlucky many who survive in Columnae, the pillars of Deus. During the game, you’ll explore the Columnae filled with intrigue, the underground Machina holding secrets from the past, the anarcho-tribal society of The Cliffs, and the industrious Greenhouse Dome owned by The Baroness, all in order to find your way into the heaven on Earth – Deus.

It isn’t uncommon for developers and publishers to reach out to the community to rally behind them in support of their newest project, however it isn’t every day that a developer reaches to help them decide which game you’d want them to develop next. However that is exactly what Press Play has done, they’ve been toying around with three very different concepts and have been doing some early concept experiments.
Below we’ve provided an overview for each game that you’re able to vote on, check them out and decide which game you’d be most interested in diving into. Of course Press Play would love your feedback and have you among the voters that’ll be helping to shape their future.
In order for them to stay on track, they’re needing your vote by September 1st. They’ll be announcing the winner on September 8th. After that, they’ll be in full gear and looking to work together to develop the winning concept into their most ambitious game yet.
